Where the Real Travel Deals Are in 2026

The best value in travel rarely comes from finding a cheap destination. It comes from timing, flexibility, and knowing where to look. Here's what I'm seeing.

Everyone wants a deal. But in my experience, the travelers who get the best value aren't necessarily the ones who spend the least — they're the ones who spend wisely. There's a difference, and it's worth understanding.

Here's where I'm finding real value for clients right now.

Timing beats destination

Shoulder season is one of the easiest and most underused strategies in travel. Europe in April, May, September, or October offers dramatically better pricing and smaller crowds than summer. The Caribbean outside of peak winter and holiday weeks can be significantly cheaper with nearly identical weather. Hawaiʻi has slower windows too — and in those windows, you often get the same resorts, the same beaches, and a better experience, for less money.

If your travel dates are flexible by even two or three weeks, that flexibility alone can be worth hundreds of dollars.

All-inclusive destinations simplify your budget

Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and parts of the Caribbean offer strong all-inclusive inventory — one price covers lodging, meals, drinks, entertainment, and most resort activities. For couples and families who want to stop thinking about every expense once they arrive, this model can be genuinely liberating. You land, you relax, you stop doing math.

Just know that not all all-inclusives are equal, and some things (excursions, premium dining, spa treatments) may not be included. I always walk clients through exactly what's covered before they book.

Cruises as a value alternative

Cruising is an "all-inclusive on the water" — and for certain trips, it's one of the most efficient ways to travel. Alaska, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe: if you want to see multiple destinations without constantly repacking and changing hotels, a cruise can deliver remarkable value. AAA projects another record year for ocean cruising in 2026 for exactly this reason.

Look beyond the famous version of a place

Instead of the Amalfi Coast, consider Sicily, Puglia, or Sardinia. Instead of Paris only, combine it with Normandy, Loire Valley, or Alsace. Instead of Maui only, consider Kauaʻi, the Big Island, or Oʻahu's less-visited regions. Instead of Cancún, consider Puerto Vallarta, Punta Cana, or Puerto Rico.

These alternatives often deliver 80% of the experience at 60% of the cost — and frequently with fewer crowds.

Airfare still has pockets of value

Dollar Flight Club identified San Juan, Puerto Vallarta, Guatemala City, Mexico City, and Punta Cana among the more affordable summer airfare options. In Europe, Reykjavik, Dublin, Helsinki, Oslo, and Stockholm are showing value. Being open to less obvious routing — or a less obvious entry city — can make a meaningful difference.

The bottom line

Value in travel is real, but it requires knowing where to look and when to book. That's exactly the kind of research I do for clients every day. If you have a budget in mind and a destination you're curious about, let's see what we can put together.
